Description

Kartoshka, the potato cake, is the Soviet no bake dessert made from cake crumb, butter, cocoa and condensed milk, rolled into a shape that is supposed to look like a potato and rolled in cocoa so that it does. Six to an order.

What it is

  • Sponge crumb, worked with butter and condensed milk
  • Cocoa through the mix and dusted over the outside
  • No baking involved, which is why it was the thing everybody's mother made

What it tastes like

Dense, cool, fudgy and very sweet. Closer to a truffle than a cake. One is enough for most people, which is why six goes further than it looks.
